With KartRider: Drift, personalization is everything. Before beginning to race, players will choose one of four characters as their kart racing champion. Then, browse through a huge garage of karts that run the gamut from small and speedy to huge and powerful. Kart choices matter as each vehicle has pros/cons for each track and mode.
But that’s just the beginning. Characters can be personalized through look, style and emotions, including how they celebrate wins and wallow in defeat (not that you’ll need to worry about that last part, right?)
Want the iconic good guy racer Dao to dress like a baseball player, race in a suped-up turtle kart and showboat when he wins? No problem. In the mood to race with mysterious factory worker Brodi in linebacker’s pads? Cool! Want him to act surprised when he emerges victorious while driving a top-secret proto kart that drifts better than any street racer in Tokyo? Sure thing.
But the customization options don’t stop there. Choose from a huge list of stickers to create iconic designs on your chosen kart. Got a flashy red racer? Slap some white stripes on it to make your very own candy cane cruiser. Plus, new karts, characters, skins, tracks, and other customization options can be unlocked as you play. And new options are added to the game all the time.
Players will also get to choose from three different game modes that give a completely unique game-playing experience.
Item Mode
This easy-to-play setting is perfect for newbies. It allows for familiarization with the game and controls while picking up numerous helpful items during races such as speed boosts, magnets to pull you toward selected racers, UFOs that attack opponents, water bombs that can be thrown, and more.
Speed Mode
This is the setting to choose when you’re looking to take your game to the next level. It’s here that the “drift” in KartRider: Drift really comes to life because speed boosts are acquired by drifting rather than picking up items. You’ll need plenty of skills to gain mastery of the more precise controls and avoid crashing out, but the rewards are worth it. You’ll be able to keep perfecting your game while customizing your karts and characters. And who knows? Maybe one day you’ll compete against the top eSports stars in Asia, where this mode has become all the rage.
Time Attack Mode
A mode in which the user can practice driving on the track alone. Your past best record is treated as a shadow (transparent character) in the game to help you practice driving. The system allows users to improve their driving skills while renewing their best driving records.
